I was told about staff football by my colleagues in the Sports Centre at the University.
Both sessions held on a Tuesday and a Friday are well attended by colleagues from right across the institution and they have a really welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
Staff football has been a great way for me to integrate myself into my new role at the University and meet likeminded people. The people that attend have a mixture of footballing ability and experience which means that nobody feels out of place.
The opportunity to play casually throughout the week or in competitive matches on a Sunday evening provides something for everybody.
I’ve been part of the group for around 3 years and staff football has not only provided me with huge social benefits, but has also been hugely beneficial to both my physical and mental health and I’d hugely recommend getting involved.
Full credit to the organisers and the University for making such a positive scheme that I’m really proud to be a part of.

I first heard about staff football when I started working at the University of Hull sports centre. I was asked by sports development staff if I would provide the players with GPS’s to track their physical performance.
Although, I was playing already 5 a side football, the idea of playing 11 a side football was exciting as I hadn’t played since college. It has been fantastic to be able to meet people in different roles across the university and making new friends in the process.
Staff football has been brilliant for increasing the amount of exercise I do. All the players in the team are friendly and supportive. I have always found staff football to be fun and enjoyable, positively benefiting my mental health in the process.

I first heard about staff football when working in the library through a colleague.
I've been playing for about 10 years now and have found it a great way to meet people across the campus and get some much needed exercise in. A lot of business happens on the pitch!
I've developed a lot of good friends through playing and have especially enjoyed our Sunday night fixtures which were my first foray into 11 a side games.
The group is really supportive and inclusive and open to players of all age and ability...which was lucky for me!
