2nd year Sports Rehabilitation
Area of work: Touch Rugby
“I started volunteering for Hull Sport to get others involved in rugby without the fear of contact so they can make new friends and take a break from their studies. I think others should get involved with Hull Sport as you get to meet others from outside your own sport and engage with other teams”.
PHD in offshore wind and environment
Area of work: Female Squash
“I decided to volunteer for female squash as I used these sessions when I first started to develop and learn the game. Over time, I fell in love with the sport, joined the squash club and have learned a lot since then. Being able to volunteer for female squash means that I see people in a similar position to me, falling in love with the sport, wanting to play, learn and develop their skills”.

Area of work: Football
“The Football Leadership programme has facilitated both my personal and professional development. The programme has allowed me to gain valuable experience in the health and fitness industry to use in my future endeavors. Throughout my time in the programme, I’ve received so many opportunities to boost my CV from completing a FA refereeing qualification and completing a level one FA coaching qualification through Hull Sport. Overall, my experience of the Football Leadership programme has been positive and beneficial whilst I’ve been studying. Through volunteering, it has allowed me to gain confidence and develop a range of skills to utilise in my professional career”.

Masters Sports Health and Exercise Science
Area of work: Sport Analysis
Throughout my time at Hull Sport, I have been fortunate enough to work with a range of talented athletes, staff, and sporting organisations. My main role included video recordings and GPS performance analysis data for the University of Hull sports teams on a BUCS Wednesday. I have also been involved in a placement with the Hull Kingston Rovers academy team, consisting of a similar role which I was doing at Hull Sport. Prior to their World Cup victory, I had pleasure of tracking the England Wheelchair Rugby League team’s physical performance data using the indoor tracking system at the University of Hull Sport Centre.
My second year at Hull Sport included spending a month with the men’s Fiji National Rugby League team, where I travelled with them all over the country throughout during the World Cup. I was responsible for monitoring the athletes distances covered and speeds reached throughout training and matches, using the GPS devices I had used previously with Hull Sport. This has provided further opportunities such as becoming an intern with Hull FC
PHD Marine Biology
Area of work: Squash Activator
I was keen to volunteer for Hull Sport to remain active and engage with sports alongside my studies. Squash has been a sport that I have found passion for over the past few years and it was a great opportunity to volunteer as a squash activator and introduce the sport to young people. I think it’s so important for young people to engage in sports and fitness, and it’s been a privilege to provide a pathway to squash for them.
