“I decided to volunteer for Hull Sport workforce programme as I recognised the opportunities they give you as well as speaking to people who have previously volunteered seeing how much they enjoyed it. My experience involves various roles from an activator in just play sessions, attending BUCS conferences and supporting a local company called Physical Foundations. These roles have particularly helped with my development in terms of being all round more confident preparing me for work-life after university. As well as developing me in educational senses from having the opportunities to gain qualifications too.”

“Participating in the Hull Sport programme is a great way to boost your confidence skills whilst having fun. I feel it has definitely helped improve my
University experience. I love going to the sessions as it’s a great way to relieve the stress sometimes brought on by my studies.
Volunteering has also helped me earn a bit of extra money as I was lucky enough to get offered a paid opportunity working with Hull Sport.”

“I decided to become a member of the Hull Sport team in order to help in providing opportunities for individuals to play sport as well as form great friends! Holding a coaching role for the university’s men’s basketball first team, this role has developed my leadership skills, organisation and communication skills. The Hull Sport sessions provide a great way to make new friends – the leaders strive for inclusiveness and are incredibly friendly and approachable.”

“I decided to volunteer in the hull sport workforce programme so that I could spend a little time developing my leadership skills while, being able to play badminton with others. Being the president of a society and doing the badminton volunteering meant that I could encourage my society members to take part in more sport and fitness as they often come to chill and play during the badminton sessions. It’s great that I’ve been able to encourage a lot of international students as well to engage with extra curricular and social aspects of uni such as campus sport as it means that they make new friends and enjoying playing. Being a volunteer has definitely helped me with time management skills and my confidence levels on talking with new and different people and engaging with them. I’ve also had the opportunity and support to organise a badminton tournament!”

“In terms of my own personal growth, Hull Sport has allowed for me to successfully manage larger groups in different drill/game scenarios. I feel that this has helped develop my confidence and attitude towards taking a lead role. One of the many reasons I chose to volunteer is that it enriches my CV and allows for useful references.
It helps strengthen connections between yourself, the Hull Sport team and the participants who take part in the sessions.”
