We are delighted to share that the University of Hull has received a 3-star rating for the BUCS Football accreditation scheme, the highest rating that a university could receive for the second consecutive year. The accreditation is an operating model which aims to unite the delivery of football under consistent standards to raise both the equality of access of football provision and the quality of that provision.
The BUCS Football Accredited Universities network works with institutions to develop a football and futsal programme that satisfies the demands of male and female students who wish to play recreationally or competitively, as well as those who want to help make the game possible.

On the other hand, the University was successful in receiving funding from BUCS in October 2023 to fund the Football Leadership Programme, which is to development students to become the next generation of football referees and coaches at the University of Hull. The funding has helped to fund qualifications, kit, equipment for 15 students to become qualified in a range of qualifications and to gain valuable experience in coaching and officiating on campus. The Football Leadership programme (FLP) has achieved all of its initial goals by providing on-campus placement opportunities for our students in football and futsal through collaboration with community partners and the University's football provision; social sport and intramural. Our students have also completed a coaching or referee qualification, preparing them to be the future generation of football leaders. The FLP programme has enabled them to learn, gain experience, and grow as coaches or referees by providing them with the resources they need.
Students frequently mentioned that traveling to and from their placement was one of the challenges to volunteering. FLP guaranteed that all volunteer opportunities were available on campus and that all expenditures associated with becoming a coach or referee were covered. Throughout the programme, students have participated in a variety of development opportunities, including a coaching conference with East Riding County FA, BUCS Development workshops, external coaching workshops to learn what makes a good session, and monthly mentoring sessions to support growth and development.
Volunteer Tiago received the "Community Engagement award" at the BUCS Football and Futsal conference in May as a result of his diligence and commitment while volunteering with the Football Leadership project. We are so proud that he has received national recognition for the exceptional work he done while participating in the University's workforce programme.
