Our fitness suite is on the move

It’s game on as the first phase of our brand new sports facilities nears completion. As we transition from phase one of the development to phase two, will we need to relocate the fitness suite from the existing building to the new sports arena. We’ve tried our hardest to minimise the impact on members but there will inevitably be some disruption during the move. We understand that this is an inconvenience but we appreciate your patience whilst we bring you the first phase of our £16 million redevelopment.

Tuesday 4 September

The fitness suite will remain open in the existing building, although there will be limited equipment available as we prepare to move. Some cardio machines will be accessible, along with weights ranging from 2kg to 20kg. Our expert team will also be on hand in a temporary personal training zone.

Wednesday 5 to Monday 10 September

From 10.30am on Wednesday 5 September, the fitness suite will be unavailable as it is relocated to the new sports arena. We will be open again at 7am on Monday 10 September.

Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September

Fancy a preview? A soft opening will provide an opportunity for members to enjoy a 15 minute tour of the new facilities, followed by 45 minutes in the fitness suite. To book a slot email tim.purdy@hull.ac.uk there are limited spaces available and these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

As part of the soft opening, a members’ rig class will run at 10am on both Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September. Again, limited spaces are available so book early to avoid disappointment tim.purdy@hull.ac.uk

Our fantastic range of group exercise classes will run as normal, taking place in the existing building and transferring to the new sports arena on Monday 10 September.

The fitness suite will reopen at 7am on 10 September, with the new sports arena fully opening on Monday 17 September. Fitness suite members will be able to access free guest passes from reception as a small thank you for bearing with us during the move.

Accessing the Sports Centre

As phase one of our £16 million investment programme nears completion, we are about to enter a particularly busy period. Whilst we have taken every opportunity to minimise disruption to our customers, there will be some slight changes to how you access our facilities over the next few weeks. Here is everything you need to know –

  1. Squash court refurbishment – 27 July to 28 August
Courts 1, 3 and 5 will be out of use. There will also be reduced spectator space due to the building works taking place.
  2. Reduced parking – 30 July to 7 September
Please use the temporary car park on the cricket pitch at the rear of the building. Temporary disabled car parking spaces will be available.
  3. Refurbishment of reception – 6 August to 7 September
There will be no access through the main reception area. Please follow the signposts to the new temporary reception.
  4. Fitness suite move – 6 September to 8 September
The fitness suite is moving to a new temporary home on the first floor of the new building. This means that the fitness suite will be closed from 10.30am on 5 September until it reopens on 10 September.
  5. Sports Centre closes for refurbishment – 16 September
There will be no access to the existing building. You will be able to access the squash courts via the path to the rear of the Sports Centre.
  6. New sports arena fully opens – 17 September
Great news! You will be able to access our brand new building and start to enjoy some of the best sports facilities in the region!
