This week I was excited to try out Volleyball for Campus Sport! I’d seen the team play before in the gym and played it a little in high school (and loved it), so I was very enthusiastic about this session.
Anna Kövecsi, the volleyball president made sure I knew that the Monday’s session is “really inclusive and open to all abilities”, ranging from total beginner (Millie) to 8+ years’ experience (Anna). The session lasted for two hours and was extremely well organised. We started with a warm up and basic serves, with more difficult shots later. The more experienced players were patient with beginners and were so happy to help me. I really liked that the session spilt in half at one point, so the beginners could practice the basic shots while the experts could work on the finer techniques and try mini-games. We all came together later to play short games which everyone enjoyed.
I loved how welcoming everyone was throughout the session. The volleyball committee noticed there were a lot of new people there (which was fantastic!), so they gathered everyone together to introduce themselves, the session and talk about their social media. It was really lovely to see how much they cared about everyone, and I loved learning a new sport in such a dynamic and fun session. I would definitely recommend volleyball to anyone!
Fancy taking part? Volleyball takes place every Monday, 3-5pm at the University Sports Centre for only £1.80. Come along & have a go.
